What is Coaching?Coaching is a relatively new profession that’s having a big impact on the lives of people across the globe. Individuals and organizations hire a coach for a variety of reasons, personal and professional. Say the word “coach” and most people imagine a man or woman standing on the sidelines at a sporting event, whistle around the neck. Contrary to what many people think, “coaching” does not always refer to athletics. However, there are some similarities between an athletic coach and a personal coach; both types of coaches:
Just like sports, life is full of challenges, position changes, fumbles and touchdowns. Just as an athlete wouldn’t realize his or her fullest potential without a coach, neither can most of us. Sure, millions of people succeed just fine on their own… or do they? Most often, those successful people had a mentor, boss or teacher who took an interest in their personal or professional development and helped them succeed. Whether or not you were fortunate enough to have such a person in your life, there’s always room for another positive voice, another person who can help you realize your potential. Personal coaching is a partnership that uses powerful questioning, self-reflection and clear communication to put you on the path to success–whatever that might mean to you. The only prerequisites for entering into a coaching partnership? A willingness to invest in yourself and your future, an open mind, a questioning spirit and a commitment to taking action. |
